After all that we’ve been through, turning five is a big accomplishment and we want to celebrate this huge milestone with you.
We’re hosting a virtual celebration where you can meet other members of the New Naratif community and our team members. A true celebration isn’t complete without music and art performances, so we have two guest performers joining us in the festivities: Kai Mata and Sidhi Vhisatya!
In conjunction with our anniversary celebration, we will also be announcing the result of The Citizens’ Agenda! After two stages and two months of campaigning, find out what the people of Singapore and Malaysia have voted as the top issues in their respective countries.

Kai Mata is an Indonesian LGBTQ+ musician known for being one of the country’s most outspoken queer artists.
When a video of them coming out as proud to be both “Indonesian and flaming gay” with their song “Her” went viral on Twitter, it sparked national controversy and backlash, yet also propelled their voice to the international community, opening doors to collaborations and worldwide media attention from The Diplomat, South China Morning Post, Nikkei Asia, The Jakarta Post, and The Guardian.
They lead identity and “Art as Activism” workshops and discussions at educational and corporate institutions (Green School Bali, Leiden University, Nokia), and perform their original music internationally. Kai’s voice has reached millions of people through their independent releases and their work with LG, Nokia, and Singapore-based startup, Lucy.
They have recorded with Grammy-Award winning musician Kipper Eldridge, performed across three continents, and proudly represents LGBTQ+ Indonesians through painting musical stories of the queer experience, seen through their most recent major performance at RightsCon, the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age.
Sidhi Vhisatya is an art practitioner based in Ubud, Bali. Currently, he is assisting the Peer to Peer program to connect learning disabled artists with established contemporary art practitioners. He also curates for Queer Indonesia Archive (QIA). In his personal works, he explores queerness, religion, domestic issues, and question about safe space through collage, poetry, zine, and documentary making.
